The companies vying for the Land Transport Authority's (LTA's) device-sharing licence - which will allow them to run fleets of devices like e-scooters - include players such as local start-ups Neuron Mobility and Telepod. New contenders include US company Helbiz and Singapore's Omni Sharing, the major shareholder in failed bike-sharing firm oBike. Applications for the licence closed on Monday. The licence caps the number of devices a company can run, and requires the firms to take steps to curb indiscriminate parking. Two existing bike-sharing operators - local firm Anywheel and China-based Mobike - have also applied for the licence.

Ahead of Monday’s (Feb 11) deadline for shared mobility device operators to apply for a licence to operate in public areas in Singapore, 10 prospective operators have confirmed with Channel NewsAsia their intention to enter the market. They are Beam, GrabWheels, Helbiz, JustScoot by Anywheel, Lime, Neuron, Omni Sharing, QIQ, ScootBee, and Telepod.

“Bike-sharing, at that moment for us, was just an entry because we saw the industry changing so fast. But now, we believe we can create a unicorn company with this e-scooter (service),” he said. Based on records from Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority which TODAY obtained, Mr Chaves’ brother, Mr Samuel Elias Chaves, is listed as a director of Omni Sharing, the company that will operate the service. Among its shareholders is OSS Sharing Technologies, a firm which lists the two Chaves brothers as among its directors.
